Thank you speaker anthony rendon! Outstanding speaker award

Speaker Anthony Rendon holding APAPA’s Outstanding Speaker Award

On May 18th, 2022, APAPA hosted their API Heritage Celebration at the beautiful Yin Ranch—the event featured APAPA’s API Next interns and their hosting legislators, APAPA’s K-12 History Initiative’s authors and supporting public officials, and many prominent community members. Among the festivities, the main program honoree, CA Speaker of the Assembly, Anthony Rendon, was awarded with the Outstanding Speaker Award.

Prior to serving as Speaker of the Assembly, Anthony Rendon was an educator, non-profit executive director, and an environmental activist. As the son of working-class parents and grandson of Mexican immigrants, Anthony has worked tirelessly to advocate for underserved and underrepresented communities.

Currently representing the 63rd District in Southeast LA County, Anthony is a champion for this community and its youth. Under his leadership, the Assembly has passed landmark legislation, including the restoration of funding for early childhood education and the nation’s first $15 minimum wage. Along with his collaborative accomplishments as Speaker, Anthony also focused on public safety and made historic changes to law enforcement’s use of force rules.

Mosty notably, Anthony is a leader who puts the community first—he is fervently committed to working with both sides of the aisle and empowering his committee chairs to take leadership in important decisions impacting the AAPI community.

Speaker Anthony Rendon understands how important our AAPI communities are—we are passionate about our education, our school systems, our community’s history and culture, and our next generation of leaders. We are entrepreneurs and hardworking immigrants whose voices matter.

On behalf of APAPA and the many organizations we partner with, we were thrilled to honor Anthony, as our outstanding California Assembly Speaker, who goes above and beyond to do what is right for our community.  Thank you for all you do!  APAPA greatly appreciates your leadership.
