APAPA Sacramento Chapter Leaders Host Town Hall Series on Assembly District 10

The Greater Sacramento Chapter of the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA) hosted a multi-series Town Hall on the Assembly District 10 race at the headquarters office in Sacramento. The event co-hosted by the Greater Sacramento and Elk Grove chapters of APAPA, included partnerships with the following five major organizations: OCA Sacramento chapter, the NAACP Sacramento chapter, the Indian Association of Sacramento, the California Asian Chamber of Commerce, and the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Before a crowd of interested constituents, the top two vote getters, Eric Guerra and Stephanie Nguyen, shared their unique backgrounds and explained to the audience why they deserve to be elected as the next State Assemblymember for Assembly District 10. Topics of questions included: inflation and the economy, public safety and crimes against Asian Americans, homelessness, support for small businesses, and keeping the lights on in California.

“These topics are so relevant to our community as everyone is grappling with inflation, high gas prices, and making difficult choices to stretch their budget. APAPA Chapter leaders, including myself, saw the importance of empowering our community with as much information as possible before they go to the polls in November,” said Jing Yuan, Greater Sacramento chapter board member who delivered opening remarks.

“We are always grateful to have an opportunity to partner with APAPA and the Assembly District 10 race covers a good portion of Sacramento county, including underprivileged communities,” said Betty Williams, President of the NAACP Sacramento chapter.

Eric Guerra currently is a city councilmember for the City of Sacramento and works for the California State Senate. Stephanie Nguyen is a city councilmember for the city of Elk Grove and the Executive Director of the Asian Resources Inc., a nonprofit organization that works to ensure that all communities have access to resources and adequate support.

“Regardless of who emerges as the winner in November, APAPA stands ready to build a strong relationship with our next elected State Assemblymember to ensure that our API community has a seat at the table and a strong voice,” said Jacqui Nguyen, moderator and current board member of the Greater Sacramento chapter of APAPA.

The Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit headquartered in Sacramento with 53+ chapters throughout the U.S. with a mission of advancing the AANHPI communities through leadership development and increasing civic engagement.
