APAPA Praises Sacramento City Council for Approving Innovation Park Project

SACRAMENTO – The Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA) issued the following statement after the Sacramento City Council recently voted unanimously in support of approving the Innovation Park Planned Unit Development (PUD). The Sacramento Planning Commission recommended the approval of the project.

The proposed development includes transforming the former Sleep Train Arena in North Natomas into a vibrant mix of residential, commercial, health, and educational hubs. An important component of this proposal is the much-anticipated California Northstate University (CNU) Medical Center Campus consisting of a 14-story, 730,000 square-foot teaching hospital to serve the local community.

“On behalf of APAPA, we thank Mayor Steinberg and members of the Sacramento City Council for approving this wonderful project that will greatly benefit residents, businesses, and families.  The vacant land that was the home of the Sacramento King will soon be hopping with businesses and a much-needed medical campus. This massive project will offer jobs and can only help further cement California as the fifth largest economy in the world. The Innovation Project is a critical economic driver estimated to bring in more than $14 billion for the next decade to our region,” said CC Yin, Founder of APAPA.

“We are so proud of the perseverance and determination of this great team of community leaders and public officials. The Innovation Park Planned Unit Development will create over 8,700 jobs for the next decade. We will also be able to fulfill the needs for local families and residents to have crucial access to medical services and healthcare. This is a true partnership and a win – win for our community,” said Dr. Alvin Cheung, Founding President of CNU.

APAPA would like to give a special thank you to several public officials including California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Sacramento City Mayor Darrell Steinberg, and Sacramento City Vice Mayor Angelique Ashby for their incredible support of the Innovation Park Planned Unit Development.
