APAPA Receives Coveted Unity Award at Black History Legacy Awards Gala
SACRAMENTO – The Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA) has been recognized for its community advocacy at the 34th Annual Sacramento Black Expo this year. APAPA community leaders, including National CEO Mary Yin Liu and National Executive Director Henry Chang accepted the prestigious honor at the Black History Legacy Awards Gala, which was held at California State University, Sacramento.
Over the past two decades, APAPA has partnered with the Sacramento chapters of the NAACP and the Black American Political Association of California (BAPAC) to host a variety of town halls events for the community including the 2018 Elk Grove Mayoral Race.
APAPA was recognized with a special Unity Award at the 34th Annual Sacramento Black Expo with thousands of attendees this weekend. The Gala Banquet was held at California Sacramento University Sacramento on Sunday, February 27, 2022.
"APAPA is honored to receive this award for leading the Unity Against Hate Nationwide Rallies last year, and for the diverse partnerships fostered in the community. We are continuing to work with those partners to advance the K-12 Asian American History Initiative; with only two states having this in law so far, APAPA is spearheading this initiative. We are inspired with your commitment to the work you do to amplify our voice and our mission will be to continue to collaborate for a better community and a better California,” said Joe Johal, APAPA National Governing Board Member.
“We are all in this together. We selected APAPA for this outstanding Unity Award as they are a grassroots national organization bringing our diverse communities together to make a positive difference. This Unity Award is a testament of the advocacy, commitment, and partnership APAPA has nurtured over the past two decades with our friends and leaders in the community. Thank you to these community leaders for recognizing the hard work and commitment APAPA has done over the years to work with you and all communities of color,” said Dr. Rick Warren, CEO Black Expo.
