On the eve of August 31, 2014, as the summer vacation has concluded and the fall quarter's general election was counting down, the newly established APAPA Tri-Valley Chapter quickly started the 2014 General Election Training for High School Volunteers.
This event was co-hosted by Tri-Valley Real Estate Agent Amy Liu, at the location of Cindy Liu's Office Conference Room located in Pleasanton. Attending were 16 high school student volunteers from several cities in the region along with their enthusiastic parents. Among them, 3 of them were recruited by the local Global Leadership Initiative Club (mainly operated by local high school students).
This training was lectured by our experienced volunteer (responsible for local voter registration stations) Shirley Xu. To start, she emphasized that volunteering for voter's registration is a meaningful activity and has profound impact on the local community. The volunteers need to present neutral and unbiased attitude while helping other to registers to vote. This is an important step to enhance our nation's democratic system. She then spent time to go over every step of the training, and shared her own stories through her extensive experience. The student's Q&A session was filled with surprised and important information. At the end, the students were also rewarded by the low-carb moon cake especially prepared by Ivy Baking Group.
Upon the conclusion of this successful training, it is our hope that such training will encourage more and more children of the asian american immigrants to get involved with the local community, as a way to gain life experience engaging in the society. In the months to come, we will see their presence in many occasions. Let's be kind and be encouraging to them, as we firmly believe that these and many future political advocates will be born among them.
