Moderators of the debate included Darryl Honda, Noriko Shinzato, and David Lim.
The forum tied many of the contentious issues of San Francisco with the role of sheriff: jail conditions, infrastructure, body cameras, marijuana, human trafficking, and sanctuary laws. Every candidate participated in the debate in a civilized manner, but were not afraid justify their positions with their own methods. Most notably, Sheriff Mirkaimi with physical newspaper clipping to support his history as sheriff, Ms. Hennessy citing endorsement from Mayor Ed Lee, and Mr. Robinson appealing to the personal level with anecdotes. In expressing plans if elected sheriff, all candidates brought a lively discussion about the future of San Francisco and agreed that San Francisco will need a strong leader to effectively address the city’s needs.
